RICHARDSON, Texas – For the first time since 2021, a women's cross country student-athlete from Eastern New Mexico has been named Lone Star Conference freshman runner of the week.
Chama El Hadiri was chosen as this week's LSC freshman runner of the week after her performance at the Texas Tech Open.
"She works hard in practice," said assistant coach Keyanah Browning when asked about El Hadiri earning the recognition. "This was her first collegiate race ever. I know there is more to come from her."
The Marrakech, Morocco native ran the fastest 6k time by a LSC runner this season as she crossed the line in 23:24.7. Overall, she took 21st place and was the ninth best finisher among NCAA DII programs.
Chama El Hadiri helped ENMU place tenth overall as a team and was the top finisher for the Greyhounds. She finished just 2:35.7 behind the winning time.
The first year Hound was competing in her first collegiate race as she did not end up competing in ENMU's first meet of the year.
The last runner to earn the same recognition was Marta Pascoa who accomplished the feat in 2021.
Competing next, Eastern New Mexico cross country will be in action at the NMJC Invitational on September 26 in Hobbs.
