FORT WORTH, Texas –
Chama El Hadiri became the first Greyhound to earn Lone Star Conference freshman runner of the year after pacing the way to a 13th place finish with a 22:22.18 time at the 2025 Lone Star Conference cross country championships at the AP Ranch.
"She (El Hadiri) was able to complete the double," remarked assistant coach Keyanah Browning after the meet.
The Greyhounds managed to take 13th overall in the 16-team field on a course that featured two main loops with hills covering the course on the tail end. Muddy conditions also proved to be a factor in the race.
Elizabeth Lujan-Towles was the second finisher for ENMU. She placed 70th with a time of 25:08.95, while teammate
Joella Mathilda crossed the finish line in 25:30.64 for 75th place. Madison Manuelita and
Maya Garcia Schafer completed the scoring five for Eastern, recording times of 25:55.62 and 27:53.13, respectively.
Also competing for the Greyhounds were
Alina Caballero, who finished with a time of 27:55.90, and
Valentina Rocabado Salazar, who crossed the line in 32:48.78.
"The ladies went out there and battled to their best of their ability," said Browning on the race. "We had some people step up when needed."
In the team standings, West Texas A&M claimed first place with 37 points, followed by Midwestern State (77 points) and UT Tyler (80 points). DBU (109 points) and Oklahoma Christian (185 points) rounded out the top five.
Eastern New Mexico finished 13th overall with 313 points, ahead of Angelo State (393 points), UT Permian Basin (471 points), and Sul Ross State, who did not record team points.
