PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico men's basketball will face in-state DI foe New Mexico this season as part of an exhibition on the Greyhounds schedule.
The game is slated for December 29 at 7 p.m. inside The Pit in Albuquerque.
"We are excited to give our players the chance to compete in one of the most historic venues in college basketball against one of the best programs in college basketball," said head coach
Brent Owen on the matchup with the Lobos. "This game will provide great in-state exposure for our university and a great experience for our alumni and fans who attend."
The last time the Hounds faced UNM in an exhibition contest was in November 2019.
ENMU holds one victory over the in-state foe. The Greyhounds earned a road win, 81-76, in December 1991. That squad was led by Earl Diddle and finished the season with a 15-14 record.
Eastern's game will be televised on the Mountain West Network.
Since head coach
Brent Owen took over the program, the Greyhounds have played at two other top-level DI venues – University of Arizona and Grand Canyon University. The game at The Pit will add a third in his third season at the helm in Portales.
"Coming back from Christmas Break is always difficult," said Owen on the scheduling of the contest "This game gives us an opportunity to get back on track before we return to conference play. We thank the UNM staff for agreeing to host us and look forward to December 29th."
Information on single game tickets will come at a later date.
