PORTALES, N.M. – Two Eastern New Mexico student-athletes were recognized by the Lone Star Conference Monday afternoon. The honor comes two days after the Greyhounds defeated West Texas A&M, 35-27, in the Wagon Wheel Game.

"I am so proud of Francisco, Mario, and our whole team," said head coach Kelley Lee after hearing the news. "Awards like these recognize individuals, but individuals couldn't earn these without a full team effort."

Francisco Moreno Gonzalez was named the LSC Special Teams Player of the Week after posting a 50.7 yards per punt average. He pinned two punts inside the 20-yard line and belted a season-best 68-yarder.

"I feel grateful," said the graduate student on the honor. "I thank God for this opportunity and my mindset is to prepare for this week."

Quarterback Mario Sanchez started his twelfth game in two seasons for the Greyhounds. He completed five passes for 167 yards and a score. For a second-straight week he clipped the century mark on the ground. He ran 20 times for 118 yards and tied his season-best three touchdowns.

"I am truly honored and blessed," said the sophomore when hearing about the recognition. "It was a great week of preparation for the whole team. Andre (Jones) had a tremendous game, O-Line had great protection for the whole game, never moving, and allowed us to make plays."

The win moved Eastern New Mexico to 5-5 on the season and 18-17 in games played for the Wagon Wheel.

ENMU finishes the season at Western New Mexico Saturday afternoon in Silver City.
