INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA announced the first edition of the basketball regional rankings this afternoon and Eastern New Mexico is one of ten schools included in the South Central grouping.
The first release includes teams under consideration listed in alphabetical order. Programs will then be ranked in subsequent weeks.
This is the same ranking system used to decide which teams qualify for the 64-team NCAA DII Championship. Eight programs from the Lone Star Conference and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference will represent the South Central region in the tourney.
"Our goal all along was to be playing our best basketball in February and March and now we are in a position to be playing for something special," said head coach
Brent Owen. "We put ourselves in that position and now we need to finish strong."
ENMU has appeared in the NCAA tournament twice in program history – 1993 and 2004.
