BSB Four Bases: Texas A&M-Kingsville

Eastern take the long trip to the South of Texas for a four game series.

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Baseball heads to sunny Kingsville, Texas for its upcoming conference series against Texas A&M-Kingsville. The four game stretch begins on Friday, Feb. 17, with first pitch scheduled for 2 pm. The next day, the Hounds and Javelinas are scheduled for two seven inning contests, beginning at 1 pm and 4 pm. The series finale will take place on Sunday, Feb. 19, with first pitch slated for 12 pm.

LAST TIME OUT

During its first home weekend, the Greyhounds claimed three games over Texas A&M International.
 
During the series opener, the Greyhounds plated seven runs in the seventh inning to take a 9-3 victory over the Dustdevils. Jonatan Clough, Nick Schifftner, and Demetrio Archuleta each picked up two hits in the contest. ENMU followed the win with an exciting 5-4 walk-off victory the next day in the first game of a doubleheader. Cooper Hamilton tied the contest at 4-4 with a 2-RBI single, allowing Dylan Hummel to deliver the game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh.
 
After the Dustdevils stole game three, 12-2, Eastern clinched a series win after an 8-6 comeback during the getaway game. Six runs in the sixth inning propelled ENMU to victory, behind six hits during the inning. Damian Acosta tossed six innings in relief with eight K's and Vernon Hart registered a save on the mound.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS 

The Greyhounds hold a 3-5 record after a successful home series, along with a 3-5 conference record. The Eastern lineup collectively have a .254 batting average, scoring 30 runs with 58 hits. The ENMU pitching staff currently boast a 6.98 ERA and picking up 37 strikeouts.

Clough leads the Greyhounds with a .370 batting average, holding a team best 10 hits and five RBI's. Hummel is just behind with nine hits, going 3-4 in his last game, producing a .360 batting average. Additionally, Clough paces the team in slugging percentage (.741), on-base percentage (.469), walks (4), and home runs (3).
 
Adrian Rubio has had a great start to his Greyhound career, leading all starters with a 3.27 ERA. Acosta, Julian Lopez, and Anthony Gonzalez all have a win this season from the bullpen, while Hart has one save this season.

SCOUTING THE JAVELINAS

The Javelinas have been tested in its opening nine games of the season, securing a 4-5 overall record along with a 3-5 LSC record. In its last weekend series, Texas A&M-Kingsville took three road games from #17 West Texas A&M. TAMUK picked up the first two games of the series 9-5 and 9-3, before falling in game three 13-10. Texas A&M-Kingsville won the final game of the series 24-20 over the Buffs. Recently, the Javelinas beat Texas A&M International 8-7 in walk-off fashion in a non-conference game.
 
The hot bats of Kingsville have a .317 batting average with a conference high 97 hits. On the mound, the Javelinas support a 9.75 ERA, surrendering 91 runs, with 60 strikeouts and an opposing batting average of .290.
 
Dalton Kramer leads the conference with a .529 batting average, posting nine hits from 17 at bats. Steven Bonuz is just behind in batting average (.452) and leads the program with 14 hits. Nick Wolff was recently name LSC and South-Central Region Hitter of the Week for the Javelinas, he leads the team with 14 RBI's and four homeruns. Wolff also posts a season high 12 runs scored, playing in every contest for the Javelinas.
 
On the hill, Cole Payne is 2-0 from the bullpen with a 5.40 ERA. Robbie Spencer, Colton Taylor, and Kobe Jarmillo are all expected to start one of the games this series, with Taylor holding a 7.04 ERA. Jarmillo is the teams leader in innings pitched at 9.2 IP, while Payne holds a season best nine strikeouts.
