PORTALES, N.M. – Following two road trips, Eastern New Mexico Baseball is back in Portales for a four-game series with Cameron University. The series begins on Thursday, Mar. 16 with a nine-inning contest, with first pitch at 1 p.m. On Friday, Mar. 17, both teams are set for a doubleheader, with the pair of games beginning at 12 p.m. The series finale is set for Saturday, Mar. 17, at 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Greyhounds return to Lone Star Conference play after a two game sweep over in state rival New Mexico Highlands University. Eastern won the series opener, 10-1, with
Nyles Duren and
Demetrio Archuleta each posting four hits in the contest. Duren had seven RBIs in the game with two homeruns, a double, and single. ENMU followed up the win with a 15-8 victory, posting a season best 21 hits during the contest.
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
After the pair of wins, Eastern are 9-12 overall on the season, along with a 7-12 LSC standing. The Hounds offense has scored 127 runs from 196 hits, holding a team batting average of .298. On the mound, the team has a 7.14 ERA posting 103 strikeouts on the season.
Archuleta has been the Hounds leading hitter over the past few weeks, holding a .358 batting average on the season, scoring a team best 17 runs scored with 24 hits and 10 RBIs.
Camden Matthews leads the program with 26 hits with a .313 batting average.
Dylan Hummel holds a .320 batting average with 24 hits, while
Jonatan Clough leads the team with 20 RBIs and seven homeruns.
For the Hounds pitching staff,
Adrian Rubio posts a 4.70 ERA (team best).
Ruger Bravo holds a 3-3 record, with a 5.14 ERA and a team high 26 strikeouts.
Noah De La Riva has also been an effective starter for ENMU, producing a 5.06 ERA and a 2-2 record. From the bullpen,
Julian Lopez has a 1-1 record in 15.1 innings thrown, while
Javier Luna and
Vernon Hart each have a save this season.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
Cameron comes onto this series on a eight game losing skid, falling in its last four-game LSC series to West Texas A&M. Recently, the Aggies dropped a non-conference game against Southwestern Oklahoma State, 17-3 (7 Inn.). Against the Buffs, Cameron fell 14-3 (7 Inn.), 8-7, 7-4, and 20-7 (7 Inn.).
Overall, this season Cameron have a 4-21 record, and a 4-20 LSC standing. As a team, the Aggies have a .261 batting average, scoring 145 runs with 197 hits. The CU pitching staff has had a rough start to the season, holding a 12.68 ERA (highest in the LSC) with 139 strikeouts, and an opposing batting average of .355.
Trent Mallonee is the team's standout hitter, holding a team best .358 batting average and 34 hits. For runs batted in, Lance Barnett leads the program with 21 RBIs, sporting a .308 batting average with 28 hits.
Clayton McClean has taken the mound nine times this season, making five starts for the Aggies along with a save this season. Drew Henderson posts a record of 2-3 from the hill, making three starts during the season with a 7.01 ERA.
