PORTALES, N.M. – After a successful home series, Eastern New Mexico Baseball are back on the road to face UT Permian Basin for a four game series in Odessa, Texas. The two teams will open the series with an early morning contest, Friday, Mar. 24 at 8 a.m. (MST). The series opener was shifted to avoid high winds forecasted in Odessa. The next day, Saturday, Mar. 25, the Greyhounds will face the Falcons for a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. (MST). To conclude the series, ENMU and UTPB will face off on Sunday, Mar. 26 for a nine-inning contest starting at 11 a.m. (MST).
LAST TIME OUT
The Greyhounds picked up a series win in their last Lone Star Conference series against Cameron University. The Aggies struck first in game one 16-15, but the Greyhounds won the final three games of the series: 3-2, 10-4, and 9-8.
Ruger Bravo tossed a complete game in ENMU's 3-2 win over CU, while the Greyhounds plated eight runs in the final two frames during a 10-4 win. To wrap up the weekend,
Rutger Poiry provided a walk off sacrifice fly to end a 9-8 game in favor of ENMU.
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
Eastern enter the weekend on a three-game win streak, sitting at 12-13 on the season while posting a 10-13 conference record. The Hounds offense has started to hit its stride, holding a .309 batting average, scoring 164 runs from 242 hits on the season. On the rubber this season, the Greyhounds provide a 7.02 ERA with 138 strikeouts this season.
Dylan Hummel is having a great campaign for the Hounds, holding a .371 batting average with a team high 33 hits.
Willie Ponce and
Jonatan Clough have a team best 22 RBIs, with the latter hitting seven homeruns and a team high .644 slugging percentage. Clough and
Camden Matthews have each scored 22 runs this season, with Matthews registering 22 base hits.
Bravo leads the ENMU pitching staff with a 4.71 ERA of the starting rotation, with a 4-3 record, three complete games, and a team high 32 strikeouts.
Noah De La Riva and
Adrian Rubio have also been key parts of the Hounds rotation, with De La Riva holding a record of 2-2 and a 5.06 ERA.
Javier Luna and
Vernon Hart each have a save this season from the bullpen, with Luna providing a 1-0 record and 3.60 ERA.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
The Falcons will host the Greyhounds after losing three of their last four games against West Texas A&M University. UT Permian Basin earned a 11-5 victory over the Buffs in game three of the series, but fell 10-0, 10-9, and 15-7 against West Texas A&M.
Following the WT series, UTPB are 10-18 on the season with an identical conference record. The Falcons hitters post a .283 batting average, collecting 180 runs scored and 239 hits. As a team, UT Permian Basin have a 7.65 ERA, registering 174 strikeouts, and with opposing hitters averaging a .319 batting average.
Individually, Carson Johnson leads the program with a .368 batting average, while scoring a team high 26 runs. Mason Hamlin holds a team best 34 hits along with a team high 13 stolen bases this season (3
rd most in LSC). Cooper Ciesielski is also a prominent hitter for the Falcons, holding a team high 22 RBIs.
Trevor Barth leads the team with eight starts on the season, totaling nine appearances with a 5.70 ERA and a 1-2 record. Creede Jeffers also is a key figure for the Falcons bullpen, posting a 2-3 record and a team best three saves on the season. Andrew Troppmann is the team's leader in wins with three, making a team high 14 appearances with a 5.56 ERA.
