The Greyhounds prepare for a pair of doubleheaders with the Patriots

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Baseball returns to Portales, N.M. as they prepare for a four-game conference series with (RV) UT Tyler. The series will consist of a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday, Apr. 1, and Sunday, Apr. 2. Both doubleheaders will feature a seven-inning contest, starting at 11 a.m., and a nine-inning game shortly after, scheduled for 2 p.m. Bark in the Park is scheduled for Saturday, with fans encouraged to bring their four legged friends and receive an ENMU collapsible water bowl (while supplies last).

LAST TIME OUT

The Greyhounds enter the weekend after splitting a series with UT Permain Basin, 2-2. Eastern claimed the series opener 4-3, after Adrian Rubio went seven innings and Javier Luna picked up his second save of the season. After the Falcons claimed game two, 7-0, ENMU picked up a 5-2 victory with Julian Lopez tossing a complete game effort. UTPB won the final game of the series 13-3 (7 Inn.).

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS 

Entering the final month of the season, Eastern hold a 14-15 overall standing with a 12-15 Lone Star Conference (LSC) record. The Hounds post a batting average of .302, collecting 176 runs, with 271 hits. ENMU on the mound has a 7.03 ERA, striking out 155 batters.
 
In the batters box, Demetrio Archuleta leads the team with a .385 batting average with a team best 37 hits. Willie Ponce joins Archuleta near the top of the Hounds hitting, posting a .340 BA with 24 RBIs, and a team best .434 on-base percentage. Camden Matthews and Jonatan Clough lead the team with 24 runs scored this season, with the latter holding a team high 26 RBIs.
 
The Greyhounds starting rotation has been anchored by Rubio, Ruger Bravo, and Noah De La Riva, with each of them holding a sub 6.00 ERA. Rubio leads the club with 34 strikeouts, while Bravo is just behind with 33. Julian Lopez has emerged as the final piece of the Hounds starting rotation, holding a 5.47 ERA with a 2-1 record. Luna has been lights out in his last four appearances, allowing just one run in 10 innings, picking up a win and two saves in that time.

SCOUTING THE (RV) PATRIOTS

The Patriots enter the weekend after an impressive sweep of #25 West Texas A&M. After that set of games, UT Tyler received votes in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA). The Patriots secured a sweep after it began the series with a 3-2 and 12-2 in a doubleheader, while winning 8-4 and 6-5 in the following games.
 
Currently on a four-game winning streak, the Patriots sit at 21-11 overall with the same conference record. As a team, UT Tyler provides a .325 batting average, scoring 251 runs, on 328 hits (3rd in the LSC). To go with the high powered offense, the Patriots have a 6.17 ERA (3rd best in the conference), posting 244 strikeouts, with an opposing batting average of .289. The Patriots are also strong defensively, posting a .977 fielding percentage (2nd best in LSC).

Ethan Bedgood is the standout hitter for UTT, posting a team leading 51 hits (3rd in LSC), .415 batting average, and 77 total bases. Leading the team in RBIs, Austin Ochoa has brought home 34 runs so far this season, along with a team high seven home runs and 27 runs scored. Also at the top of runs scored, Lane Hutchinson has been helpful with a .374 batting average, along with 27 runs scored.
 
On the hill, Nolan Cox has started every game they have appeared in (eight games) holding a 4-1 record and a 5.85 ERA. Dylan Blomquist and Miles Clack have both made five starts this season on the rubber, with Blomquist holding a 3.16 ERA and a 2-0 record. Clack sports a 4.45 ERA with a 4-0 record. From the bullpen, Juilo Garcia leads the program with 29 strikeouts, while Garrett Arredondo holds a 0.39 ERA, a 3-0 record, with three saves on the season (team high).
