Rodeo finishes 2022-23 season at Tarleton State

Eastern New Mexico women earn 55 points in final competition of year

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The 2022-23 rodeo season wrapped up at Tarleton State last week and the Greyhounds found great success to finish off the year.

Shaeden Marr highlighted the weekend for Eastern New Mexico as she split the top-three spots in the long round after finishing the breakaway in 2.1 seconds. Although she did not post a time in the short go, she was able to share the sixth-place spot overall to earn additional points.

Marr's 55 points helped the women tie for seventh to complete the season. This is the sixth time the team has finished in the top-ten in a competition in 2022-23.

The weekend saw several competitors in each event and the Hounds had several student-athletes rank in the top-half. Six additional girls besides Shaeden Marr earned top-50 nods out of 194 breakaway ropers. Hannah Gaudry, Shacie Marr, Caitlin Kreider, Jordyn Everson, Tabby Tomlinson, and Kaylee Mitchell represented the Hounds.

Shacie Marr and Caitlin Kreider finished 0.2 seconds away from earning a spot in the short round in goat tying. Shacie Marr was also just 0.12 seconds away from making it in barrel racing.

Rowdy Norwood finished the season by making the short go after clocking in a 4.9 seconds run in steer wrestling. His teammates Beau Dean (15th) and Zachary Townsend (21st) also competed in the event.

Couy McBride almost made it two weeks in-a-row with a Saturday night appearance in team roping. With just two runs remaining, his group was cut from the marquee event by 0.1 seconds.

Overall, ENMU women finished ninth in the region and the men finished fourteenth in the region out of the ten rodeos the Greyhounds competed in.

Shacie Marr completed the season as the 15th best competitor in the breakaway and the 11th best in goat tying in the southwest region. Beau Dean completed the year as the 15th ranked student-athlete in steer wrestling.

This season saw the women earn a win at the 2022 College Daze rodeo and the men earn a pair of 11th place marks.
