CANADIAN, TEXAS – The Eastern New Mexico Rodeo team competed for their fourth weekend in a row in Canadian, Texas at the Frank Phillips College Rodeo. Coming into the weekend, the women's team sat in second place in the Caprock Region, while the men sit in seventh.
Shaeden Marr would capture ENMU's second all-around title of the season, tying for second in the barrel racing and placing sixth in the breakaway roping. Eight Greyhounds made it to the championship round Saturday night, including
Hadley White earning another reserve title, this time in the steer wrestling.
The highlight performance for the Greyhounds this weekend came from Graduate student
Shaeden Marr, who took home the All-Around title after slowly climbing the leaderboards each week in the barrel racing and making her first short-go in the breakaway roping. Marr ran the fastest time in the long round with an 18.13 and followed it up with a 17.84 in the short-go to tie for the reserve title in the barrel racing.
"Shaeden's been running really well on a young horse," said head coach
John Sharp, "I'm really happy to see her succeeding after battling a knee injury last season." Marr secured her All-Around title with a sixth place finish in the breakaway roping, roping a 2.5 in the long round and a no-time in the short round. "She's worked extremely hard to get back into things, and the hard work is starting to show and pay off."
Hadley White earned his second reserve champion title in a row- this time in the steer wrestling. White barely snuck into the championship round with a 9.6-second run, but followed it up with a 6.7 in the short-go.
Orran Hart also earned his third top-ten finish of the season in the bulldogging, placing seventh after having the third-fastest run in the long round with a 5-flat.
Bowdy Neece was the lone other member of the men's team to place, running a 12.1 in the long round but missed the calf in the short-go to finish in ninth place in the tie-down roping.
Mia Box continued her hot streak after her all-around and breakaway title just two weeks ago in Lovington. Box placed seventh in the breakaway with a long round time of 2.6. Freshman
Leah Wood made her first short-round in her collegiate career, earning an eighth place finish in the breakaway after a 2.8-second run in the long round.
Veteran
Kaylee Stroud improved on her previous eighth and fourth place finishes in the goat tying over the previous two weeks, placing third and tying times of 8.0 and 7.4. "It's just Kaylee doing what Kaylee does. She's a veteran with a lot of experience, and you can always count on her to go out there and get the job done." Said Sharp.
Allie Murphy rounded out the short-go qualifiers in the barrel racing, placing eighth with times of 18.15 in the long round, and a 23.11 in the short-go after tipping a barrel.
"The women have been doing exceptionally well so far this season. They're in a position to win every weekend when all the pieces fall together." Said Sharp of the women's team success so far this season. "Having two all-around champions only four rodeos into the season just shows our resilience and the talent that we have." The women's team finished in fourth.
"For the guys, it's been a grueling schedule with four weekends in a row. We're finding success, but we have things to work on during this week off." Said Sharp. The men's team finished in seventh place for the fourth weekend in a row.
The ENMU Rodeo team will round out the fall schedule in two weeks at the Texas Tech Rodeo across the eastern border in Lubbock on October 29
