LOVINGTON, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico University rodeo team wrapped up their second rodeo of the 2026-27 season at New Mexico Junior College in Lovington, New Mexico. ENMU's
Mia Box, a transfer from NMJC, was crowned the champion in the all-around and breakaway roping, giving the Greyhounds their first individual event title of the season.
Hadley White and
Allie Murphy were the reserve champions in the steer wrestling and barrel racing, respectively. Both team's finished 7
th overall.
"It was a pretty good weekend for us. I think it showed the depth and the talent that we have. The team battled through some rough conditions with all the rain and tough draws." Said head coach
John Sharp on the team's performance this weekend.
Mia Box came out on top of the all-around title and breakaway roping after a 3.4 second run in the long round, then posting the only sub-3 second run in the short round with a 2.9, and a strong performance in the barrel racing.
"I was so happy for Mia… she's been struggling with horses being sore, things not really going the way she wanted at our rodeo. Then she bounces right back and fights through the tough conditions, clocking good in the barrel racing and then goes and win's the breakaway title. That's awesome." Said Sharp. Box placed 6
th in the barrel racing with an 18.41 second run in the short round, then clocking the third fastest time in the short-go with a 17.94.
Brinlee Yore finished eight in the breakaway with a 3.5-second run in the long round, but hit the barrier in the short round.
Allie Murphy finished as the Reserve Champion for the second week in a row in the barrel racing, having the fastest run in the long round with a 17.84 and then an 18.14 in the final go.
Shaeden Marr also finished in the top ten in the barrels for the Greyhounds with times of 18.08 and 18.44.
Two Greyhounds made the short round in the goat tying, with
Brooke Bruner finishing in 5
th and
Kaylee Stroud finishing in eight. "Brooke is fighting through an injury and has just been working to get back healthy. She fought through the pain and is giving it everything she's got, and not letting it effect her." Said Sharp. Bruner tied a 9.6 in the long round and a 9.9 in the short round. Stroud had the third fastest time in the long round with a 9.2 and finished in eighth in the rodeo after her goat got up in the final.
On the men's side, three Hounds made the short round in a muddy weekend in the steer wrestling.
Hadley White was the reserve champion with 5.6-second run in the long round, and a 9.1 in the short-go. Freshman
Nick Candeloro bounced back from a tough weekend in Portales to finish 6
th, clocking a time of 12.5 in the long round and an 11.8 in the long round.
Duncan Adamson rounded out the ENMU field with a 6.1-second run in the long round, finishing in 7
th.
Cutter Pareo was the lone Hound to make the short-round in the tie down roping, posting the second fastest time in the long-round with an 11-flat run, but had a no-time in the short go to finish in 7
th. Both team's finished in 7
th place overall.
Eastern will head to their third rodeo of the season at Clarendon College in Canadian, Texas next week on Thursday, October 1
st, through Saturday the 3
rd.
