Men’s basketball introduces Alex Alfaro to recruiting class

New Mexico native possesses strong basketball background

Portales, N.M. – Former Deming High School hooper, Alex Alfaro will play for Eastern New Mexico this year.

"Alex is skilled, strong, and smart," said head coach Brent Owen on Alfaro. "He comes from a basketball family and had an excellent career at Deming High School. We are excited to see him grow in our program over the next four years."

The 2022-23 District 3-4A MVP helped the Wildcats advance to the second round of the 4A state tournament and finish the year at 19-12.

After the season, he was selected to play in the New Mexico Red/Green All Star Basketball Game.

He scored 973 points between his junior and senior seasons. As a senior he made 46% of his shots from the floor and posted 16 games with 20 points or more.

His mother Melanie played basketball at New Mexico State where she was an all-conference honoree and inducted into NMSU's Athletics Hall of Fame.
