Pitch Preview - WSOC: Midwestern State and St. Edward's

Eastern continue conference play with a home and away battle with a pair of Texas schools

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Women's Soccer continue their journey through Lone Star Conference (LSC) play with a pair of conference clashes. First, Eastern will travel to Midwestern State on Wednesday, Sept. 27 for an evening match beginning at 6 p.m. (MST). Then, the Greyhounds return home for a Sunday showdown with St. Edward's, with a morning kickoff (11 a.m.) on Sunday, Oct. 1.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

  • Eastern New Mexico went 0-1-1 during their first week of conference play, falling to Lubbock Christian, 2-0, and forcing a draw with UT Tyler on the road, 1-1. Nina Ballesteros scored in the draw, while Samantha Jeffries made seven saves to preserve the result in Tyler. ENMU holds a 1-3-4 overall record, with a 0-1-1 LSC standing.
  • As a team, the Greyhounds are averaging 6.8 shots per game, totaling seven goals this season. ENMU have recorded six assists and tallied 25 shots on goal this campaign. Defensively, Eastern has allowed 13 goals so far with opposing teams finding 13.9 shots per game.
  • Both Ballesteros and Sydney Saxon lead the way with two goals and an assist on the season, while Emma Hafenbrak boasts a pair of goals themselves. Haley Huff has provided two assists and a goal this season in the attacking third. Jeffries has started every match in net for ENMU, holding a 0.727 save percentage with 32 saves on the season.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS

  • Midwestern State will host the Greyhounds coming off a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat against Angleo State. ASU scored the winning goal in the final minute of play, sinking the Mustangs. MSU have a record of 4-4-2 on the season, with a 1-1-0 start to conference action.
  • The Mustangs have recorded nine goals this season on 13.9 shots per game. Along with the teams four assists, MSU have converted three penalties this season. The defense has allowed just seven goals this season, while opposing teams are finding 9.6 shots per game.
  • Lexi Beck leads the scoring charts for the Mustangs, converting three penalties along with two goals from open play. Isabella Cruz paces the team with 24 shots this season, but Beck leads the group with 10 shots on goal this season. SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS

  • St. Edward's have just played five matches so far this season but hold an important 1-1 record in LSC play after its first week in conference play. Standing at 2-2-1 overall, the Hilltoopers will face St. Mary's on Wednesday before playing ENMU. In its last match, SEU suffered a 2-0 loss to Texas Woman's University.
  • The Hilltoppers have just scored four times in their opening five games, only scoring in two separate games this season. The team is finding a conference low 6.6 shots per game, with just 33 shots total this season. Defending wise, SEU have given up eight goals with 11.6 shots per match, and 17 saves this season.
  • Ari Rameriz has half of the St. Edward's goal haul with two, while Maddi Davis and Katie Fitzpatrick have each scored once.
