PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico football is set for a Family Night matchup against No. 20 Angelo State at Greyhound Stadium. Before the 6 p.m. kickoff Saturday, please read the 4th & 1:
First Down - Battle In Wichita Falls: ENMU produced arguably the best offensive game of the season in a 34-31 loss to conference foe Midwestern State. The team managed to earn 23 first downs over 459 yards. For the first time in 2023, the Greyhounds clipped the 300-yard rushing and the 150-yard passing mark. Eastern also scored all three times they earned a trip inside the red zone. MSU allowed 30+ points to an opponent for just the second time all season.
Second Down – Who Is The Man: ENMU is having no issues with the production from its crew on the ground game. Four different student-athletes have made their mark as the team's leading rusher over the first four games. Against MSU,
Elijah Zeh had the best day offensively as he ran the ball 30 times for 194 yards and two scores. He helped the team comeback from a two touchdown deficit and hold a lead in the fourth quarter. Other key rushers for the Greyhounds over the other three games include
Mario Sanchez,
Trevion Butler, and
Jonathan Watson.
Third Down – Near The Top: Angelo State is coming to Greyhound Stadium as the No. 20 team in the country. Within the Lone Star Conference, the Rams are one of the best teams statistically. They lead the league in fourth down percentage defense (0%), third down percentage defense (28.3%), and team tackles for loss per game (7.8). Receiver Zorhan Rideaux leads the LSC in receiving yards (413) and is second with receiving TD's (3) and yards per reception (24.29). Punt returner Andrew Pitts leads the nation with 26.0 yards per return.
Fourth Down – In Lee We Trust: Although Angelo State leads the overall series over Eastern New Mexico, 27-18-1, a
Kelley Lee led program is 2-1. Both wins came at Greyhound Stadium with ENMU holding down for a 31-21 win in 2017 and a 20-17 clash in 2019. Since 2013, the two foes have four wins apiece. The two squads met last year in San Angelo as ASU came away with a 28-9 win. The Greyhounds are looking for their first win against the Rams since 2019.
&1 – Champs In Town: The 2013 Lone Star Conference champions will be recognized during the football game. Three current coaches for ENMU were apart of the team. Offensive coordinator
Kelley Lee, defensive coordinator
Oliver Soukup, and at-the-time preseason all-american
Ben Langford. The team began the season in a similar way to 2023 as the first two games came against New Mexico Highlands and Sul Ross State. The team finished with a 7-3 overall record with a 5-1 finish in LSC play. The Greyhounds won their final five conference games to be recognized as champions. Those wins include Angelo State (29-28), Texas A&M-Kingsville (13-10), West Texas A&M (39-38), Midwestern State (40-21), and Texas A&M-Commerce (42-35). Several former players and coaches will be in attendance for the recognition.
