BURKBURNETT, Texas – Eastern New Mexico competed at the Mustang Derby Thursday night.
The race featured four programs from Lone Star Conference schools (Eastern New Mexico, Dallas Baptist, Midwestern State, UT Permian Basin).
ENMU entered a full team in the men's race. Freshman
Matthew Guerra posted an impressive 20:43 time over the 6k race to take seventh place. This marks the second competition in-a-row where he has finished first among Greyhound competitors.
Ethan Woodrome held strong pace for a 23:00 time and freshman
Gustavo Padilla competed for the first time as he crossed the line in 23:56. Just behind Padilla was
Emmanuel Hernandez who finished in 23:56.
The final two finishers for ENMU were
Ricky Diaz (25:27) and
Bryce Owens (26:27).
Oklahoma City won the men's overall race.
As for the women's squad, four runners competed in the Mustang Derby.
New Mexico Military Institute transfer
Maritza Alvarez took eighth place with a 15:07 time in a 4k race. Senior
Kaylyn De La Rosa crossed the finish in thirteenth and posted a 15:35 time. The other representatives for Eastern were
Lauren Griego (17:37) and
Jazmine Smith (23:41).
Midwestern State won the women's overall race.
Next up for Eastern New Mexico is a trip to Texas Tech for a meet on Friday, September 15.
