PORTALES, N.M. – The 2024 cross country season wraps up at the 2024 Lone Star Conference cross country championships held by Texas A&M-Kingsville. Before ENMU gets to the starting line, please take a look at the Five Mile Preview:
Mile One – Greyhound Rewind: Eastern New Mexico last competed at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, N.M. Three women represented the Hounds, including
Sylvia Lagat (20:40.5),
Elizabeth Lujan-Towles (20:43.7), and
Sanne Janssen (21:49.2). The four men who competed in the meet were
Bryan Hernandez (28:35.1),
Justin Sauceda (29:09.6),
Jackson Gable (29:42.2), and
Ethan Woodrome (31:35.8). It was the first time ENMU had competed at NMJC since 2019.
Mile Two – Men's Lookout: ENMU sends six student-athletes to represent at the conference championship. All four who ran at NMJC will be joined by
Brian Norton and
Thomas Aerdts. The best 8k times for these individuals are Hernandez (27:59.4), Sauceda (28:41.6), Woodrome (29:16), Gable (29:20.2), Aerdts (31:44.3), and Norton (32:12.4). Hernandez, Sauceda, Gable, Aerdts, and Norton will all be running in their first LSC cross country championship. The men's 8k race will begin the day at 9 a.m. CT.
Mile Three – Greyhound Women: The Hounds team consists of
Sanne Janssen,
Faith Jepchirchir,
Sylvia Lagat,
Elizabeth Lujan-Towles, and
Valentina Rocabado Salazar. Their best times in the 6k are - Lujan-Towles (25:33.7), Lagat (25:53.9), Janssen (25:58.9), Rocabado Salazar (30:27.9), and Jepchirchir (31:18.5). The women's 6k race is set for 9:45 a.m. CT.
Mile Four – Championship Recap: The last time Texas A&M-Kingsville hosted the Lone Star Conference meet was in 2017. Both men's and women's programs took seventh for ENMU. For the men, Omer Almog earned a top-15 finish with a 27:26.53 time. Mason Swanson took ninth crossing the line in 23:47.69. Back in 2008, TAMUK also hosted the championship event. Eastern men finished seventh and the women took ninth. The best men's time for ENMU was from Logan Robertson (26:01) in the 7.7K race and the women's race saw Jerri Martin (26:29) finish at the top for all Hound runners in the 6k.
Mile Five – The Course: Texas A&M-Kingsville's course is on the site of Dick Kleberg Park. The loop surrounds some local sport facilities along with the DKP Disc Golf Course. It is close to five miles south of the TAMUK campus. The most difficult part of the course will feature tight turns, including a "U-turn" type finish. The temperatures are supposed to be in the 70's near race time. Results will be made available directly after the conclusion of the race. Please
