RICHARDSON, Texas – For a second time this season, senior
Greg Johnson has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
"It started a lot with the summertime. Looking at a lot of old film and trying to get better," said Johnson when asked what it took to get to this point. "I am blessed. That's all I got to say."
The Little Rock, Arkansas native averaged 27 points, four rebounds, and 2.5 assists over two wins for ENMU this week. He scored 30 points in a win over the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith – his third time reaching 30+ points this season.
"It's great to see someone who has worked so hard on their game be rewarded with a season like Greg (Johnson) is having," said head coach
Brent Owen on the senior. "He's shooting the ball incredibly well and has become a better finisher at the rim."
Johnson has elevated his game from a year ago. He has improved in nearly every facet on the court offensively and defensively. The 6-5 guard has improved his three-point percentage from 28.2% in 2022-23 to 49.5% this season. For comparison, he has connected on 20 more three's this year and has taken seven less attempts.
"He has gone to local youth football and soccer games to support some of our young fans who cheer for him in Greyhound Arena," said Owen when remarking on what Johnson does outside of basketball. "I couldn't be more proud of him."
The senior will graduate this spring with a bachelor's in university studies. He plans to pursue a playing career and is interested in coaching after his time on the court is completed.
Johnson will be one of five seniors recognized this week during senior day Thursday. His focus is on getting two wins against Western New Mexico.
"Hope to get these next two and finish strong," said Johnson.
Tip for the men's game against WNMU will take place 25 minutes after the women's game finishes.
