ENMU packs their bags for Oklahoma to face Cameron University

PORTALES, N.M. – After contending with a non-conference opponent, Eastern New Mexico Baseball jump back into Lone Star Conference (LSC) play with an away series with Cameron University this weekend. The series starts with a single nine-inning game on Friday, Mar. 15, with the first pitch set for 2 p.m. (MST). The next day the teams have a doubleheader, on Saturday, Mar. 16, with the games beginning at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. (MST). The series ends on Sunday, Mar. 17, beginning at 12 p.m. (MST).

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS 

ENMU return to conference play after taking two games in a non-conference sweep of New Mexico Highlands with an 11-11 record and 9-11 conference standing. During the 13-2 series opening win, ENMU hit three home runs, with a solo bomb from Demetrio Archuleta, two-run blast from Cooper Hamilton, and a pinch-hit walk-off home run from Jonathan Baileys. During game two, ENMU scored 12 runs over the first five innings, during a 12-6 victory. Archuleta had a notable performance over the weekend, finishing 7-9 at the plate and scoring six times.

Eastern New Mexico batters a .299 batting average, scoring 163 runs with 203 hits and 138 RBIs. Eastern's hitters have drawn 102 walks, with 59 extra base hits this season. On the rubber, Eastern New Mexico's ERA sits 7.02 coming into the series. Allowing 202 hits and 109 runs. The Greyhounds pitchers have drawn 99 strikeouts, while holding opponents to a .284 batting average.

After the great weekend, Archuleta shoots up to the top of the ENMU batting leaders (.378), while he and Willie Ponce have a program best 28 hits each. Ponce leads the conference and the team in runs scored, holding an on-base percentage of .490 with nine walks and 10 hit-by-pitches. Daniel Pruitt and Luciano Terilli both have over 25 hits this season, while Beau Preston leads the team in walks (19) and RBIs (25). Gavin Perry maintains the Greyhounds best record on the mound, 3-2, winning his last three starts with a 5.46 ERA. Josaiah Estrella has been solid since moving to a starting pitcher role, with 13 strikeouts over two starts and 22 total strikeouts on the season. Terilli leads the team with two saves from the bullpen, while Ruger Bravo leads all starting pitchers with a 3.74 ERA.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES

After starting the season 0-12, the Aggies sit at 5-19 overall with the same conference record. Cameron took a game against #5 West Texas A&M from their last series, winning game three 9-8 on the road and falling in the series finale after an error extended the game and a walk-off double for WT. Prior to the 3-1 series defeat with WT, CU had series splits with Texas A&M-Kingsville and St. Edward's.

The Aggies have a .281 batting average so far this season, picking up 214 hits with 130 RBIs, scoring 144 runs. Cameron forced 98 walks, while scattering 94 extra base hits, while holding a .491 slugging percentage (3rd best in LSC). The CU pitching sports a 10.01 ERA so far this season, holding opposing hitters to a .333 batting average. The team has produced 150 strikeouts, while giving up 260 hits and 252 runs.

Leading the conference in hits, Lance Barnett has a .408 batting average with a team best 42 hits, scoring a team high 25 runs. Wyatt Grant holds a team best 27 RBIs with 30 hits, while Doovan Borg has 23 runs scored on 32 hits. Drew Durst is a two-way player for the Aggies, sporting a .297 batting average with 20 RBIs, while holding a team best 25 strikeouts and 5.47 ERA of the starting rotation. Clayton McClenan leads the team with 26.1 innings pitched, making four starts with a 7.52 ERA.
