Baseball makes their final trip to the Sooner State this season

PORTALES, N.M. – After breaking its losing skid this past weekend, Eastern New Mexico look to start a winning streak against Oklahoma Christian this weekend, playing a four-game series in Oklahoma. The series starts on Friday, April 12, at 4 p.m. (MST). The series continues Saturday, April 13, with each team playing a doubleheader at 1 p.m. (MST) and 4 p.m. (MST). Both teams conclude the series on Sunday, April 14, with a single game beginning at 12 p.m. (MST).

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS 

Eastern (15-23, 13-23 LSC) look to build off its series finale victory over UAFS, with the Lions winning the first three games. UAFS took the opening two games in a tight doubleheader, 3-1 and 4-3. During the third game of the series, the Lions scored seven runs in the 2nd inning to win the game 14-8. In the series finale, both teams put on an offensive display combining for 52 runs in the game (Most runs in a DII game this season). The Greyhounds came away with a 28-24 victory, led by five hits from Luciano Terilli, posting a school record five runs score and nine RBIs. Zach Raichel earned their first win of the season in relief, while Adrian Rubio fired a four-out save.

Eastern New Mexico batters have a .287 batting average, scoring 246 runs with 335 hits and 211 RBIs. Eastern's hitters have drawn 157 walks, with 98 extra base hits this season. On the rubber, Eastern New Mexico's ERA sits 7.55 coming into the series. Allowing 363 hits and 281 runs. The Greyhounds pitchers have recorded 254 strikeouts, while holding opponents to a .306 batting average.

Recently being named Lone Star Conference Player of the Week, Terilli emerged as the leading hitter for ENMU. The junior paces the team for batting average (.353), hits (48), and RBIs (30). Willie Ponce is a close second, providing 46 hits with 44 runs scored (leading team). Ponce and Beau Preston both have 30 RBIs this season, tying Terilli at the top of the charts. Gavin Perry leads the starting rotation with a 5-4 record and a 4.92 ERA. The Junior has a team best 56.2 innings pitched this season with 43 K's. Josaiah Estrella, Julian Lopez, and Terilli were part of the starting rotation, with Raichel earning a relief win and Rubio picking up their first save of the season.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

Oklahoma Christian (7-31, 7-29 LSC) have run into a tough stretch, losing their last 11 of 12 games, including six in a row. In their last series, the Eagles faced #4 West Texas A&M on the road falling in four straight games. In the opening two games, the Eagles fell18-12, with an 8-5 defeat in game three to clinch a series victory for WT. In the series finale, Oklahoma Christian dropped the contest 14-9.

The Eagles have a .260 batting average so far this season, picking up 303 hits with 196 RBIs, scoring 212 runs. UT Tyler forced 158 walks, while scattering 120 extra base hits. The OC pitching sports a 9.86 ERA so far this season, with opposing hitters posting a .343 batting average. The team has produced 245 strikeouts, while giving up 423 hits and 378 runs.

Justin Spencer (.349) and Hunter Jones (.342) both have a batting average over .300 to lead the team, with Spencer leading the squad with 29 RBIs, while Jones provides a team best 40 hits and 29 runs scored. Sloan Laird ties Jones for the team lead in runs (29), with Ethan Box providing an important 28 hits and 27 RBIs.
