Eric Benedick Named Women's Basketball Assistant Coach

Benedick brings in several years of experience as an assistant coach, trainer, and head coach

PORTALES, N.M. – Eric Benedick has been announced as the newest assistant coach for the ENMU Women's Basketball program, appointed by head coach Blake Huber. The experienced Benedick comes to ENMU with a thorough basketball background, bringing experience as a former professional player, player development trainer, and head coach.

Benedick joins the Greyhounds after a short stint with Jacksonville University, helping the Division I program recruiting, planning practices, working as academic oversight, and player development. Before going to Jacksonville, Benedick served as the assistant coach for the Eastern Wyoming College women's basketball team. With the Lancers, Benedick held coaching responsibilities and administrative roles including creating player practice plans, team strategy and concepts, film exchange/breakdown, travel expense management, and budget allocation and management. Additionally, he worked in student affairs for the university as a Residencial Life Coordinator.

Prior to joining EWC, Benedick spent close to two and half years at Colorado Northwestern Community College serving in several different roles. He began his time at CNCC as an assistant coach for the women's basketball program while working in residential life. After one season, Benedick was promoted to lead the Spartans, while maintaining their obligations to the residential life office. Then, Benedick added athletic director to their job title, while serving as the head women's basketball coach and working in residential life for seven-month period. Overall, Benedick produced 18 all-region selections and five NJCCA Academic All-Americans.

Before landing with CNCC, Benedick held several coaching and player development roles in Albuquerque at the club and high school level. Benedick was the Director of Player Development for club team New Mexico Elite 2022, working with several future collegiate athletes. At club level, Benedick coached New Mexico Clippers for over three years, guiding the 17U Red Team from the 14U level. At the high school level, Benedick had two separate stints at Sandia Preparatory School as the lead assistant for the girls' basketball program.

Prior to making coaching his full-time profession, Benedick played for several teams across the globe: UMF Sindri (Iceland, Jan. '16 – May '16, Aug. '19 – Mar. '20), Derby Trailblazers (England, Aug. '17 – Sept. '18), and PEA (Thailand, Feb. '18 – Apr. '18). During his playing career, he frequently held dual roles as the head coach (UMF Sindri and Derby Trailblazers).

Benedick began their academic career at University of New Mexico, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Interpersonal Communication in 2016. Benedick went onto earn a pair of master's degrees, first from Eastern New Mexico in 2022 (Master of Science - Physical Education) and Western New Mexico in 2023 (Master of Arts – Interdisciplinary Studies).
