WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Eastern New Mexico cross country competed at the Mustang Derby, Thursday night.

The women began the twilight event with a 4k. Eastern finished eighth among 11 programs participating. ENMU's first finisher for a second-straight week was Elizabeth Lujan-Towles who finished the race in 15:33.3.

Rounding out the final four for the Greyhounds included Sanne Janssen (16:52.7), Valentina Rocabado Salazar (17:13.2), Sylvia Lagat (17:28.9), and Faith Jepchirchir (18:59.4).

"I'm proud of the team's accomplishments today," said assistant coach Keyanah Browning. "It was a good test for the women against some tough regional competition."

ENMU men's team placed seventh among eight programs in the 6k. Seven runners competed for the Hounds. Three freshmen led the way for Eastern. Bryan Hernandez clocked in at 20:55.9, while his teammates Justin Sauceda (21:34.3) and Thomas Aerdts (21:40.7) followed closely behind.

Also finishing for the team included Brian Norton (21:45.9), Jackson Gable (22:22.9), Ethan Woodrome (22:56.9), and Alec Forney (25:32.6).

"Very happy with how the race went," said Browning after the meet. "The group continues to grow and show that they can finish strong."

Eastern New Mexico will take a two-week break before competing again at the New Mexico Highlands XC Jam. The in-state race will be held September 27.
