PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico men's basketball hosts kids day at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena on Tuesday. Before the game against Northern New Mexico, please take a look at the Starting Five:
1.) Opening Weekend: Eastern New Mexico men's basketball went 1-1 last weekend with a loss to Fort Lewis and win over New Mexico Highlands. This marks the fourth-straight year that the Greyhounds have started 1-1. The Hounds were led by
Jose Murillo who earned a 15-point, 10-rebound double double. Sophomore
Mo Austin also was a highlight in the game with 16 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
Austin Abrams got his first career start as a Greyhound and contributed 14 points on 5-of-14 shooting.
2.) Winning Feels Good: The first win of the 2025-26 season came against New Mexico Highlands. A 73-53 result saw Eastern take down their in-state opponent behind 50% shooting from the field. Six players scored in double figures with Murillo leading the pack with 18 total points on 7-of-9 shooting.
Cooper Jackson had a nice outing for ENMU with 11 points, four assists, and two steals. Freshman
Mika Tangermann was important for the program as Murillo sat out a good portion of the game in foul trouble. The German added 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting. Two of those field goals came from behind the arc. The Hounds limited the Cowboys to just 40.4% shooting. NMHU had three players in double digit scoring.
3.) About the Eagles: Former New Mexico Highlands head coach Michael Dominguez leads the charge for Northern New Mexico. His squad is 1-5 early in the season. They are 1-4 in games decided by single digits. Harkirath Makhar leads the team with 22.2 points per game and has scored 36 points in two different contests so far this season. He is a 6-3 junior from West Valley City, Utah. NMHU transfer Ja'Kwon Hill leads the program with 29 assists. Their only win came against Oklahoma Panhandle State in Goodwell, Okla. Eight different Eagles come from the Land of Enchantment.
4.) As A Team: Eastern New Mexico is averaging 73.0 points per game on 44.9% shooting. The Greyhounds are connecting on just 27.9% of their shots from behind the arc. Free throw shooting is also notable for the program as they connect on 70% from the charity stripe. Eastern holds a +2.5 rebounding margin over opponents and +5.0 turnover margin. The Hounds have seven blocks compared to just three for opponents.
Jose Murillo leads the team in points (33), rebounds (15), field goal percentage (.813), and blocks (3).
Mo Austin leads the team in assists (12) and
Cooper Jackson leads the team with steals (6).
5.) Kids Day: One of the best games of the entire year is kids day. Entry is free for all and kids from all around the high plains will attend the game. Nearly 2000 are expected for the event. Fans are asked to show up early for the 12 p.m. tip inside Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena. Attendees will be given fun interactive activities like bingo during the game.
