PORTALES, N.M. – Senior forward
Jose Murillo is the Lone Star Conference defensive player of the week. He earns the recognition after an impressive weekend that saw him total 18.0 points, 15.0 rebounds, three blocks, and two steals per game.
"(Jose) had a great performance," said head coach Daven Võ when told about the award. "This is a team award. They put him in a position to do what he does best."
Murillo helped Eastern New Mexico go 2-0 over the weekend and extend their winning streak to five games.
"Really," questioned Murillo when told he was named the defensive player of the week. "Credit goes to all my teammates. They prepare in practice and play hard every time. This is really good."
The Chihuahua, Mexico native had 16 points and 15 rebounds in a dominating win over MSU Denver and followed that with a 21 point, 15 rebound day against CSU Pueblo. He now has three double doubles on the season and is the only player in the Lone Star Conference to average a double double.
