CLEVELAND –
Mario Whitley has been named a second team all-south central region player by the Conference Commissioner's Association (CCA).
"It means a lot. I consider this a team award and thank my teammates for putting me in the position to be honored for this award," said Whitley when told about the honor. "A big shoutout to all Greyhound fans for supporting me all season long."
It is a second-straight year with an Eastern New Mexico men's basketball student-athlete receiving all-region recognition from the NCAA DII CCA. In 2023-24
Jahcoree Ealy received first team honors from the organization.
This year,
Mario Whitley aided the Hounds to 18-11 (13-9 LSC) record. He led the team in scoring (15.5 ppg), rebounding (8.9 rpg), and double doubles (10).
The Saginaw, Mich. native closes out his ENMU career by helping the program go back-to-back seasons with 13+ conference wins for the first time ever. He also was a crucial part of the team that won the team's second ever conference tournament title.
Sports information directors from the south central region voted on the honorees. Eight of the 11 recipients come from an institution in the Lone Star Conference.
