Rubio Claims NCBWA South Central Pitcher of the Week

Rubio becomes second Greyhound ever to win NCBWA regional pitcher of the week accolade

LUBBOCK, Texas – After being named Lone Star Conference (LSC) Pitcher of the Week, Adrian Rubio of Eastern New Mexico Baseball has been named National Colligate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) South Central Pitcher of the Week. The South Central Region is made up of the LSC and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). Rubio is now eligible for the NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week honor, which will be voted on later this week.

Rubio earned a victory in the Greyhounds 6-5 (11 Inn.) walk-off win over Lubbock Christian, helping the Greyhounds secure a conference split with the Chaps for the first time in program history. Rubio fanned five batters over six relief innings, allowing just two hits and two walks. Over the final three innings of his outing, Rubio faced the minimum nine batters.

The right-hander is the first Greyhound to receive this honor since 2014, marking the first in the coaching era of Riley Price. In 2014, Matthew Artalejo won regional pitcher of the week, being the first Greyhound to ever claim the honor.

Rubio and the Greyhounds play a four-game series this weekend on the road against #3 Angelo State. The series begins on Thursday, Apr. 17, and is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. (MST) / 6:30 p.m. (CST).
