PORTALES, N.M. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) released the latest top 25 polls and Eastern New Mexico is listed as the No. 19 team.
"It is good for those to be recognized for what they have done so far," said assistant coach
Cam Parker when asked about the No. 19 nod. "I'm not big on those numbers. I am focused on winning the day."
It now marks the 15th time ENMU has been included in the national rankings in school history. This is the second time the institution has been ranked in four consecutive polls and the first time it has happened in the same season.
Back in 1969-70, the Greyhounds were part of the final rankings and proceeded to be ranked in the first three polls of the 1970-71 campaign.
Eastern is one of three teams from the Lone Star Conference entered in the poll. The three schools are No. 11 Lubbock Christian, No. 19 Eastern New Mexico, and No. 25 St. Edward's. Just missing the top 25 marks, but still in the receiving votes category are DBU (24 pts), West Texas A&M (18 pts), and St. Mary's (15 pts).
The Greyhounds are coming off a week where they beat Midwestern State (84-60) and then-No. 5 LCU (85-80). The win over the Chaps was the first top 25 win for ENMU since they took down then-No. 19 MSU Denver during the 2024-25 campaign.
The top three schools nationally are No. 1 Washburn, No. 2 Daemen, and No. 3 Nova Southeastern.
This week, No. 19 ENMU will host (RV) West Texas A&M at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
"I treat every team the same and try to pass the same message with the guys," said Parker when asked about the matchup with WT. "We know it is going to be a battle. We are looking forward to it. It is going to be a fun game. Two good teams and a lot of talent on the court."
The Buffs come into Portales with a 14-5 (6-3 LSC) nod. They sit at the top of the conference in scoring offense (85.7 ppg), three's per game (10.4), and free throw percentage (78.0%).
