BSB Four Bases: West Texas A&M

Eastern New Mexico baseball set to host West Texas A&M for four-game series

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico baseball is set for a four-game series against West Texas A&M. Before the two Lone Star Conference foes meet at Greyhound Baseball Field please take a look at the Four Bases Preview:

First Base – Remain Focused: Eastern comes into the weekend with a 1-5 mark with five-straight losses. Last week, ENMU competed against (RV) St. Edward's in Austin and dropped all three contests. The first game saw SEU capitalize on four Greyhound errors and showcase an ability to stay alive with two outs. The second game featured the Hilltoppers score five runs in the first inning and hold onto a 7-0 result. Lastly, the series ended with a run-rule defeat (16-6) over eight innings of action.

Second Base – Lineup Change: Junior Gabriel Watson has started the last four games for ENMU as a designated hitter or right fielder. He is on a five-game hitting streak, including two multi-hit games against St. Edward's. The Hewitt, Texas native is hitting .368 and boasts five singles, a double, and a homer. He also holds onto a .579 slugging percentage and is responsible for six RBI's. Watson is a newcomer to the 2026 squad after transferring from Purdue where he sat out the 2025 season.

Third Base – Slow Start: West Texas A&M is just like ENMU and has started the 2026 campaign with a 1-5 mark. They are coming off a series sweep against UT Dallas. The Buffs have three batters hitting above the .300 mark. Those include Jacob Police (.444), Brock Bunker (.348), and Daniel Castellanos (.320). Timothy Haynes leads WT with two homers and is second on the team with a .571 slugging percentage. Bunker is 4-for-4 in stolen bases. Nick Yeager has held low numbers early this season on the mound. Over two starts, Yeager has nine innings of work, allowed six hits, given up four runs, and struck out 11 batters. He is 0-1 on the year. The only Buff pitcher credited with a win is Cade Griffin who has a 4.91 ERA and has gone 11 innings of work over two starts.

Home – Mixing with the Vets: One nice aspect of Eastern New Mexico's pitching staff is the mixture of experienced arms and newcomers. Two newcomers have made nice additions for ENMU. Micah Early leads the team with a 4.00 ERA over nine innings of action in a pair of relief appearances. He has given up four hits, five runs, and has walked five batters. Early is tied with a team leading six strikeouts. Another newcomer to note is starter Charlie Pierson. He comes to the program via Mornington, Australia. Pierson is looking to improve his 10.57 ERA and work towards his first winning outing of the season. Veteran Greyhound Cole Lancaster is the only Hound credited with a victory and he has started two contests and appeared in three games. Lancaster holds a 6.52 ERA early in the 2026 season.
