PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico baseball is headed to UT Dallas to face the Comets in Richardson, Texas. Please take a look at the Four Bases Preview for more details on the series:
First Base – Weekend Recap: Eastern New Mexico earned one win in the four-game series against West Texas A&M last week. ENMU's lone victory came in an 11-10 walkoff outing on Saturday. They lost three contests – 14-3 (8 inn.), 17-6, and 9-5. Eastern committed nine errors compared to just two for the Buffs over the weekend. WT outhit ENMU, 49-38.
Gabriel Watson was one of the better hitters for Eastern as he posted five hits in the final three games of the series and also registered five walks.
Second Base – Winning Outing: Jebadiah Trudeau registered the win on the mound for Eastern New Mexico. The junior right hander went two innings and allowed just four runs, two hits, and a walk. His two hits allowed are a season-high. The Cohoes, N.Y. native has struck out five batters in 5.1 innings of work through three contests.
Third Base – New Member: This will be the first ever meeting on the diamond for UT Dallas and Eastern New Mexico. UTD comes into the series with a 6-4 mark and swept WT in three games just two weeks ago. The Comets are riding a three-game losing skid after dropping a series to St. Mary's. Their only win over the Rattlers came last Friday in a 4-0 result led by David Dean on the mound. Dean allowed three hits and no runs while striking out four batters in seven innings of work. He was named pitcher of the week in the region for his efforts.
Home – Hot Bats: UT Dallas will rely on a steady lineup featuring six Comets who hit .324 or better. The top two hitters by average are Jake Amoroso and Gavin Barker who both sport a .357 average. Amoroso leads the team with 15 hits, five doubles, and 42 at-bats. UTD has seven players with 10+ hits this season, including six with two or more doubles recorded. The Comets rank fourth in the Lone Star Conference with a team batting average of .309.
