PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico men's soccer team finishes up a four straight games on the road Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. MT when they take on Dallas Baptist at Patriot Soccer Field. The Greyhounds will be looking to extend their unbeaten streak to five games as well.
Entering the game, Eastern is 4-5-2 while the Patriots are 3-6-1.
The teams have been three times before with the Greyhounds winning all three meetings. Last season, ENMU won 2-1 in overtime on a game-winner from now sophomore midfielder
Jose Hernandez at home. The other two contests were played in Dallas, Texas in 2004 and 2012.
Senior midfielder
Abayneh Crosby (Houston, Texas/Atascocita HS) leads the Greyhounds with four goals and 11 points while he is second with three assists. Both sophomores
John Jamison (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia HS) and
Ryan McManus (St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland/Madras College) have put the ball into the back of the net twice this year as well.
Hernandez's four assists are the most on the squad and is tied for the ninth most in a season by an Eastern player. Freshmen
Ignacio Dicun (Amarillo, Texas/Tascosa HS) and
Daniel Sanchez (Albuquerque, N.M./Atrisco Heritage Academy) also have both been credited with two assists.
In goal, freshman
James Gutierrez (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva HS) is 4-3-2 with a 1.06 GAA, .815 save percentage and 44 saves. He began the week ranked 24th in saves per game and 38th in save percentage in the nation.
DBU is coming off a 1-1 draw with Midwestern State on Monday at home. In their Heartland Conference opener last Saturday, the Patriots fell 3-0 to St. Edward's. Saturday's match will be the last of four consecutive home games for DBU. They will then be playing their next five on the road. Their three wins this season have been against Harding, McMurry and Southern Nazarene.
Riley Alvey paces DBU with four goals and nine points while putting a team-high 12 shots on goal. Landon Lacy has scored three times while Brian Robertson has put the ball into the back of the net twice. Five others have scored a goal for the Patriots as well.
David Balyeat, Leevi Schwartz and Robertson have all been credited with a team-high two assists. An assist has also gone to five others on the squad.
The Patriots have used two goalkeepers this season. Mason Stringers has started six games and is 3-3 on the season. He sports a 2.28 GAA and .641 save percentage with a team-best 25 saves as well. Starting the other four games this year is Chuck Schober (0-2-1), who has a 2.13 GAA, .700 save percentage and 21 stops.
