Battle with Rival Buffaloes Awaits Greyhound Soccer

PORTALES, N.M. – A tough test awaits the Eastern New Mexico men's soccer team Thursday night when they travel to take on rival West Texas A&M at 6 p.m. MT at The Pitch.
 
The Greyhounds going into the match with a 3-5-2 record and are undefeated in their last three games while the Buffaloes are 6-3 on the year.
 
WT has dominated the all-time series over ENMU, holding a 13-5-2 lead. Last season, the Greyhounds lost a heartbreaker in Canyon, Texas 1-0 and played to a 1-1- draw in Portales six days later. In the teams' last eight meetings though, Eastern is 4-3-1 against the Buffs with two of the wins coming on the road.
 
Tied for the second longest goal streak in team history is senior midfielder Abayneh Crosby (Humble, Texas/Atascocita HS) at four games while pacing the squad in goals (4) and points (10). Sophomore forward Ryan McManus (St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland/Madras College) is the only other Greyhound to have multiple goals this season with two.
 
Sophomore midfielder Jose Hernandez's (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque HS) four assists are the most on the team. His total ranks 44th in the nation and his 0.40 assists per game is the 79th best
 
Between the posts, freshman goalkeeper James Gutierrez (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva HS) enters with a 1.18 GAA, .808 save percentage and 42 saves over eight games. He is 24th in the nation with 5.25 saves per games while his save percentage and total saves are 38th and 40th, respectively.
 
In their last match, WT lost at home to then 25th-ranked Fort Hays State 1-0. Wednesday's contest will be the sixth and final home game for the Buffs in the current home­stand. They play six of their final seven contests on the road. WT has wins over Adams State, Colorado Mines, CSU-Pueblo, Dallas Baptist, Newman and Oklahoma Christian. Their other two losses have been to St. Edward's and Texas A&M-International, both coming at home.
 
Vitor Cardoso leads the squad in goals (4), points (11), shots (20) and shots on goal (12). He is tied with Christo­pher Hutton for the team lead in assists with three. Two of Cardoso's goals have come on penalty kicks.
 
Finding the back of the net three times has been Chris Johnson. Axel Insulander, Michael Williams and Hutton have all scored twice as well. Two assists have been credited to Williams while Insulander has one to his name.
 
In goal, Patrick Satorie (4-3) has started seven games for the Buffaloes. He has allowed seven goals while sport­ing a 1.11 GAA and has a .741 save percentage with 20 saves. Four appearances have been made by Carlos Ruiz with two of them being starts. He is 2-0 with a 1.49 GAA, .714 save percentage and has stopped 10 shots.
