PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico men's soccer team closes out their season Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. on ENMU Soccer Field. They will host Lubbock Christian while honoring the team's three seniors prior to the match.
The Greyhounds enter with a 6-6-3 record while the Chaps are 9-5-1 and riding a three-game winning streak.
In five all-time meetings between the two programs, ENMU holds a 2-1-2 lead following a 2-2 draw back on Oct. 2 in Lubbock, Texas. In Portales, Eastern is 1-0-1 all-time with the last contest being a 2-1 win in 2013.
Senior
Abayneh Crosby continues to pace the Greyhounds in goals (4) and points (11) while adding three assists. Finding the back of the net three times apiece this year has been sophomore
Ryan McManus and freshman
Gil Munoz.
A team-high six assists, fifth most in a single-single season, are credited to sophomore
Jose Hernandez. Junior
Carlos Viveros and freshman
Daniel Sanchez, along with Crosby, are second on the squad with three assists.
Freshman
James Gutierrez is 6-4-3 on the year between the posts. He has a .841 save percentage this season which is the 10th best in all of Division II. Gutierrez also sports a 0.95 GAA and has made 69 saves, tied for the fifth most by a Greyhound in a season.
LCU is coming off a 2-0 win at home on Thursday over West Texas A&M. They are 5-1 in road games this season with their lone loss being to Midwestern State by the score of 4-0. Sunday's contest will be their finale of the season as they are ineligible to compete in the postseason while making the transition to Division II from NAIA.
The Chaps have scored 34 goals this year with 10 coming from Lennard Hansen, who also paces the squad with 25 points. Tommy Fogarty-Cameron has tallied six goals while Corey Hutchison has added three. Mitchell Hopkins and Hansen pace the team with five assists apiece while Mbongeni Ndlovu has been credited with four. Hopkins also leads LCU in shots (27) and shots on goal (15).
In goal, the Chaps have used two goalkeepers this season. Tim Saucedo has compiled a 7-2 record over 10 games including nine starts. He sports a 1.41 GAA and .772 save percentage while making 44 saves. Tristen Putnam has started six games. He is 2-3-1 on the year with 25 saves, .641 save percentage and 2.28 GAA. Putnam has not made an appearance since the Chaps hosted Eastern New Mexico.
