PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University baseball starting pitcher James Gray (Sr., St. Petersburg, Fla. / East Carolina University) was named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week Tuesday, having thrown a career-high 13 strikeouts in a 3-1 win against Angelo State University over the weekend.

It has been just over a year since a Greyhound was named pitcher of the week by the LSC, with Matthew Artalejo being honored with the award March 24, 2014.  Artalejo also earned to honor Feb. 25, 2014 as well.

Gray threw a complete seven inning game against the Rams, leading ENMU to victory over the nationally ranked rams.  He only gave up one earned run and six hits in his dominating performance.

Gray fell one strikeout short of the ENMU record for most strikeouts thrown in a single game, a record currently held by Mark Jackson who threw 14 strikeouts in a 12 inning affair against Wayland Baptist in 1993.

Sitting at an overall record of 1-3, Gray now leads the team with 43 strikeouts overall and 30 K's in conference play, putting him at seventh in the conference for total strikeouts.  He holds a 3.99 ERA in 29.1
innings pitched on the season, holding opponents to a .270 average from the plate.
