LAWTON, OKLA. — After five scoreless innings,
Mark Foley (Sr., Vacaville, Calif. / Solano College) drove in two runs in the top of the 10
th inning to give the Eastern New Mexico University baseball team a much need win over Cameron University Sunday, with a final score of 3-1.
The inning started off with
Chris Sanders (Sr., Murrieta, Calif. / Palomar College) reaching first base on an error, followed by a
Daniel Ward (So., Cleveland, Ohio / Clovis Community College) single two put men on first and second. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners ahead and then after intentionally walking the dangerous
Charles Sandberg Jr. (Jr., Bradenton, Fla. / State College of Fla. Manatee-Sarasota
), Foley stepped up to the plate and ended the game with one swing, driving the ball down the right field line.
Kiegan Basso (So., Peoria, Ariz. / Centennial High School) earned the win for the Greyhounds (15-27, 10-19 LSC), pitching four shutout innings with six strikeouts and no hits. His four inning performance was so dominating, the only time anyone reached base was one his single walk. Basso is now 1-2 overall.
Clyde Kendrick (Jr., Vicksburg, Miss. / Holmes Community College) bounced back after a tough start the previous weekend, pitching five innings, allowing only one earned run while striking out eight batters. The ENMU pitching was so dominant, the Aggies (19-26, 11-21 LSC) were held to just five hits all game.
Ward continued to increase his batting average, recording two hits in the game and now has a recorded .303 batting average on the year. Recording at least one hit pushed Ward's consecutive hitting streak to nine games, one shy of the team leader.
As of right now, the Greyhounds are still locked into fifth place in the Lone Star Conference and will need to sweep Angelo State in their upcoming series to have a shot at the postseason. ENMU will head down to San Angelo, Texas, May 1 for their series with the Rams after traveling to Hobbs, N.M., to take on instate rival University of the Southwest on Tuesday.
