PORTALES, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team (3-4-1) bounced back from Wednesday's setback and exploded for four first-half goal, en-route to a 4-1 win over visiting Texas A&M-International (1-6), Saturday afternoon at ENMU Soccer Field. Melissa Carnero netted the game-winning goal 18:31 into play and the Greyhounds never looked back.

The win moved ENMU to 3-0 in the series against the Dustdevils, which started last season. The Hounds also are 8-3 at ENMU Soccer Field under head coach Omar Morales and have won five of their last seven home contests.

Eastern has not scored four goals in the opening half of a game since a 6-0 win over University of the Southwest on September 7, 2008. The last time the Hounds netted four in any half came in September 16, 2010, in a 6-1 win over Wayland Baptist. Both games were played at ENMU Soccer Field.

Carnero tallied the first goal of the game after taking a pass from Amber Polizzi. It was her second goal of the week, after netting her first of the season against West Texas A&M. Four minutes later, it was Polizzi who netted a goal on an assist from Jenna Sievers.

Following the same pattern, Sievers scored the next goal, after she beat a pair of defenders at midfield. With 34:49 left in the half, Erin McAnarney tallied ENMU's final goal for a 4-0 lead. With just over 10 minutes left in the second half, Kim Garcia got the Dustdevils on the board on a penalty kick, to cut the ENMU lead to 4-1.

Eastern dominated play from the outset, as displayed by the 17-4 edge in total shots. The Greyhounds actually held a 12-0 lead in shots in the first half. ENMU also enjoyed an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. Karissa Stinson made one save in the opening half, while Cristina Escobedo had two in the second half. Chelsea Knaack made six saves for Texas A&M-International.

Next up for the Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team is Midwestern State, next Friday. The contest is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. MT.
