PORTALES, N.M. — On Friday, the Lone Star Conference released its 2016 cross country academic awards. Eastern New Mexico University was represented by
Lorenzo Juarez from the men's team.
His selection marked the fourth consecutive year a runner from Eastern was chosen to the LSC All-Academic Team. Juarez is the first runner from the Greyhound men's cross country team to earn conference all-academic honors since Jacob Wiklund in the 2008 season. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.30 cumulative grade point average. The All-Academic teams are voted upon by the league's sports information directors.
Juarez was one of Eastern's top finishers at the West Texas A&M Buffalo Stampede, with a ninth-place performance. He crossed the finish line with a time of 27:38.2. He also had a standout performance at the Arkansas Chile Pepper Festival, where he placed 144
th.
Juarez and the Eastern New Mexico University cross country teams will compete in the Lone Star Conference Championship meet on Saturday morning. The event will be hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce.
