PORTALES, N.M. — In what will be their final series of the 2016 season, the Eastern New Mexico baseball team will host Cameron University starting Friday, finishing the year Saturday with a doubleheader while also honoring their four senior players.
Going into the series with a 10-37 overall record, in the competitive Lone Star Conference the Greyhounds are 3-29. The Aggies head into the contest with a 27-19 record and are 15-17 in the LSC. Cameron currently sits in fourth place in the conference and is only one game ahead of Tarleton State for the fourth and final playoff spot.\
Hound head coach David Gomez said, "Cameron is a very good team and they are fighting for a playoff spot. They have some good players in their lineup and some very good guys at the top of their rotation, so we need to be careful around those spots and it's going to be a good battle."
The very young Greyhound team will be looking towards some of their newcomers on the mound this weekend, starting and throwing mostly freshman and sophomores throughout the series.
"We will have some younger guys on the mound this weekend, probably going with Lemmon in game one or a handful of freshman. Game two and three will be Keenan Dodd and Miranda-Carr, so we like our chances if we can be competitive in the zone," said Gomez.
As for the veteran players, Jacob Cluff, Dylan Nault, Charles Sandberg Jr. and Justin Paul will all be saying their farewells to teammates and fans Saturday. As seniors they will be honored on the final day of competition.
"We have our four seniors to honor. Jacob Cluff and Dylan Nault have been here since I walked into the program, so it's going to be a tough goodbye for them especially," said Gomez. "Obviously, anyone who rides it out till their senior year here is well respected."
The first pitch is scheduled for today, Friday, at 6 p.m. (MT), with the Saturday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. (MT). The live video and stat links for each game can be found below.
