Morales to Join Staff of Houston Dash

PORTALES, NM – For the last three seasons, Head Coach Omar Morales ascended to second on the career wins list for the Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team. Morales resigned the position effective, March 31, to join the staff of the Houston Dash as an assistant coach for the National Women's Soccer League team.

"On behalf of all of us here at ENMU Athletics, we want to thank Omar for his service to ENMU Women's Soccer. The program has moved forward under Omar's leadership and he has demonstrated his passion for the sport, concern for his student-athletes and commitment to ENMU during his time here. He will be missed, but we wish him and his family the best in their new endeavors."

In his first season at ENMU, he guided the program to a third-place finish in the Lone Star Conference. The squad's nine victories tied for the second most in team history, and were five better than the previous season. In Morales' final season, the Hounds eclipsed a team record for goals in a game, with 11 against University of the Southwest, with seven in the first half alone.

"I don't think I would have had gotten this position if not for what we did at Eastern," Morales added. "I want to thank [President] Dr. Steven Gamble, [former Athletic Director] Dr. Jeff Geiser and [Athletic Director] Dr. Greg Waggoner, for the opportunity to be the head coach at Eastern. I know the program is in better shape than when I got here three years ago. Last of all and most importantly, I want to thank my wife, Miriam, for all her love and support."

Currently the Dash feature players such as Carli Lloyd and Morgan Brian. Lloyd is a two-time FIFA Women's World Player of the Year, World Cup Champion and two-time Olympic Champion. Brian is a current U.S. National Team Player and a World Cup Champion.

"Thank you to Randy Waldrum for allowing me the opportunity to join his staff," Morales said. "I have known him for many years and he is one of the best human beings I know, on top of being one of the best coaches in the country."
