After Season-Opening Road Trip, Greyhound Men’s Soccer Returns Home

PORTALES, NM —After a four-game road trip to open the season, the Eastern New Mexico University men's soccer team (1-2-1) will return home. On Thursday night, the Greyhounds will debut on Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium.

The four-game home stand will open on Thursday at 7 p.m. with the Heartland Conference opener against Oklahoma Christian. On Saturday, Eastern will host Midwestern State at 1 p.m. MT.

Under third year head coach Paul Tate, the Greyhounds have posted nine home wins. Last season Eastern posted a 4-2-3 record at home, which included a scoreless tie against NCAA Division II powerhouse St. Edwards.
 
This season, the Hounds feature a versatile offense which already features six players with goals scored. Yuri Nascimiento has a 1.58 goals against average over four games with a .767 save percentage.

Head Coach Paul Tate is in his third season and with a 14-17-7 record is just three wins away from catching Carlos Elizondo for the program record for victories.

The Greyhounds have a 4-0 record against Oklahoma Christian with a 1-0 mark at home. Last season Ryan Sinclair deflected a shot off a defender from 15 yards out for the game's only goal. James Gutierrez made three saves to earn the win for ENMU. The Greyhounds held an 18-14 edge in total shots and the sole corner kick of the game.
 
The Eagles hosted the first meeting between the teams on Sept. 27, 2013. Eastern won that contest by a 4-1 score. OCU scored first on a penalty kick, but back-to-back goals by Jose Hernandez and Raphael Splanemann in a two-minute span gave the Hounds the lead for good.

The Greyhounds last defeated Midwestern State on October 27, 2014 by a 2-1 score. Jose Hernandez and Isaak Arrieta both tallied their first goals of the season, while James Gutierrez made 10 saves. Arrieta netted the game-winning goal on a pass from Hernandez with under 14 minutes to play.
 
The Greyhounds overcame a 25-7 deficit in shots to earn the road victory which handed MSU its third loss of the season.

Eastern will continue its home stand next Thursday night against St. Mary's. The home stand will conclude on Saturday against Texas A&M-International.
