Hounds to Conclude Homestand This Week Against Rattlers and Dustdevils

PORTALES, NM —After making their home debut last week, the Eastern New Mexico University men's soccer team (2-3-1; HC 1-1) will continue their homestand with two more games this week. The Hounds will host St. Mary's on Thursday at 7 p.m. and follow with a Saturday contest against Texas A&M-International at 1 p.m..

Last Saturday, the Greyhounds saw their eight-game home undefeated streak snapped at the hands of eighth-ranked Midwestern State. The setback was the first home loss for Eastern since a 1-0 decision against UT-Permian Basin, last September 29th.
 
This season, the Hounds feature a versatile offense which already features seven players with goals scored. Nicolai Alstrom has tallied two dramatic game-winning goals this season. Yuri Nascimiento has a 2.02 goals against average over four games with a .729 save percentage.

Head Coach Paul Tate is in his third season and with a 15-17-7 record is just one win away from catching Carlos Elizondo for the program record for victories.

The Rattlers come to Portales with a record of 3-2-1 and a 1-1 mark in Heartland play. Last Thursday, St. Mary's posted a 3-1 road win over Dallas Baptist.
 
The Greyhounds are 4-7-1 against St. Mary's, but own a 4-2 record at home in the series. Today's contest will mark the first time the Rattlers have played on Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium.
 
The Greyhounds are on a two-game skid in the series against St. Mary's, but had a tie in 2014, when the teams met in Laredo, Texas. Eastern's John Jamison knotted the score at 1-all just before halftime and James Gutierrez shut the door with six saves. ENMU's last win was a 3-2 decision in 2009. Marco Alarcon netted the game-winner 4:15 into the second overtime. All-time leading scorer Emerson Rodrigues also found the net, as did Michael James. Alistair Caldwell made one save for the Hounds.

The Dustdevils are 1-1-2 on the season with an 0-1-1 record in Heartland play. On Saturday, they played to a 1-1- tie at Dallas Baptist.
 
The Greyhounds are 1-7-2 against Texas A&M-International, but own a 1-2-2 mark in home games against the Dustdevils.
 
In 2007, the Dustdevils' Raul Quinones tied the game on a penalty kick with just 2:40 left in regulation. Eastern answered with a penalty kick of its own, when Ryan McClanahan netted the game-winner just 22 seconds into overtime. McClanahan scored twice in the game.
