LUBBOCK, Texas – Senior sprinter Danee Bustos led the Eastern New Mexico track and field team with a personal-best 7.82 in the 60-meter dash, setting a new personal best in the event and finishing just seven-hundredths of a second behind Dominique Zamora's program record Friday afternoon at the Texas Tech Open.
Bustos finished 27th out of 86 runners competing in the 60-meter quarterfinal event and came in sixth out of 21 competitors from the Lone Star Conference.
The Greyhounds primarily competed in sprinting events during the first day of the two-day event.
Kandice Miles put together a strong showing in the 400-meter final, crossing the finish line in 58.48 seconds to place 20th out of 72 overall and fourth out of 22 LSC runners.
In the men's 400-meter final, senior Travonne Armstead paced the Hounds with a 50.07 setting a new personal best in the indoor 400-meter, eclipsing his previous best of 50.46 set at last year's Texas Tech Open. Armstead finished 35th out of 86 overall and was eighth out of 23 Lone Star competitors in the event.
Maijah Mathis ran with Bustos in the 60-meter and put together a strong finish with a 7.86, coming in 32nd overall and eighth among LSC opponents.
The Hounds will look to flex their muscles in the middle distance, distance, and relay races tomorrow as the Greyhounds will return for the second day of events at the Texas Tech Open for a 9 a.m. slated start time.
