Marshall, Mendoza Earn All-Lone Star Conference Honors

RICHARDSON, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico softball team had a pair of standouts earn All-Lone Star Conference accolades on Thursday as sophomore outfielder Kayla Marshall was named to the LSC All-Academic Team and freshman outfielder Iliana Mendoza was selected to the All-LSC Third Team.

In her second year with the Greyhounds, Marshall earned All-Academic honors with a 4.0 cumulative GPA while majoring in Forensic Science. The Albuquerque, N.M. native appeared in 40 games and made 35 starts for the Hounds, slashing .265 from the plate with seven doubles a triple, and a .365 on-base percentage while scoring the third-most runs on the team with 16.

Marshall's best game of the season came against UT-Permian Basin on Mar. 2, as she recorded a career-high three hits, going 3-for-4 with an RBI in a 4-3 win.

Mendoza made the All-LSC Third Team in her first season in Portales. During the 2019 campaign, Mendoza played in 38 games and made 36 starts. The Tucson, Ariz. native led the ENMU bats with a .373 average, bashing seven doubles and a homer while registering a team-best .430 on-base percentage and scored a squad-high eight runs.

As the team's top hitter, Mendoza recorded 12 multi-hit games, including a trio of three-hit games. In a matchup against one of the top teams in the country, Mendoza crushed her first career home run in the first inning against No. 6 Angelo State on Feb. 15.
