The Eastern New Mexico men's soccer team won its first exhibition match of the season 2-0 over Wayland Baptist University inside Greyhound Stadium Monday night.
ENMU dominated the early possession numbers, controlling the ball for 75 percent of the first half. The Hounds were able to create quality chances and eventually found the back of the net following a fantastic finish by sophomore
Joe Conway. ENMU's constant pressure continued to harass the Pioneer's backline in the second half as the Hounds pushed their lead to 2-0 after a
Wilson Barahona goal.

th minute, Junior
Gabriel Peres made a long run down the left sideline before sending a stellar cross into the box where he found an open Conway who drilled the ball into the right side of the net. Peres continued to create for his teammates the entire match and earned his second assist of the game in the 59
th minute after beating his defender down the sideline and crossing the ball to Barahona who one-timed it past the keeper, extending the Hounds lead to two.
The Pioneers best scoring chance came late with ten minutes remaining in the game. WPU's Lucas Travis seemed to have a break away chance as he split the Greyhounds center backs before freshman defender
Emil Powles broke up the play with a perfectly timed slide tackle, halting the Pioneer's attack.
The Green and Silver put eight shots on goal and made the best of their opportunities despite being out-shot 11-10 by the opposition.

Ross Dalton started the match and totaled three saves, including a tremendous diving save in the 20
th minute to keep the game tied. Freshman
Jonas Kersten manned the net the second half and finished with a pair of saves as the Hounds where able to shutout Wayland Baptist. Â
ENMU continues its exhibition docket against Adams State in a neutral site game Saturday, Aug. 24 in Albuquerque.
