PORTALES, NM – Eastern New Mexico Track and Field will finish the regular indoor season at the Texas Tech Shootout in Lubbock, TX this weekend. The Greyhounds will have 35 athletes competing in ten events over the two day meet.

LAST WEEK
Three Greyhounds headed to Albuquerque, NM last week to strengthen their NCAA qualifying times. Senior Mercy Rotich took to the track and recorded a personal best time of 9:44.55 in the 3000-meter last putting her an arm's length ahead of any competitor. Aminate Kenyawani took a couple seconds off her previous 3000-meter time recording 10:28.29 which moved the junior up to the 5^th spot in the LSC. Senior Ivar Moinat also competed last weekend recording a new 800-meter time of 1:52.44 and is currently ranked second in the LSC.

ALREADY QUALIFIED
Ivar Moinat has continued to make strides in the 800-meter after recording a time of 1:52.44 last weekend at the NM Collegiate Classic. Moinat's new time has earned him a provisional mark in the LSC standings, as well as being ranked second. Moinat will need to cut three seconds off his time for an automatic place into the NCAA Division II Championship. Moinat is scheduled to run both the 400-meter run and the 800-meter this weekend.

Mercy Rotich, another Greyhound Senior has earned a provisional mark for the NCAA DII Championship from her work at the NM Collegiate Invitational. Rotich is the only female in this category who has earned either a provisional or qualifying mark. Rotich is scheduled to run the 5000-meter this weekend which she has not ran since the 2019 LSC outdoor championships.
 
ONE MORE CHANCE
The Greyhounds will have one more chance to prove themselves on the indoor track in hopes of qualifying for the Lone Star Conference Tournament.
Jessie Madrid, is placed tenth in the LSC for his time in both the mile and 3000-meter run. The junior recorded a 3000-meter time of 8:41.59 at MLK Collegiate Invitational in January and will only compete in the 3000-meter this weekend.

Making a run for the first place spot is junior Neri Getraide who is currently ranked second for her 800-meter time of 2:17.30 recorded at the New Mexico Team Open earlier this month. Following Getraide is junior Malethabo Seema who is ranked third in the LSC after an 800-meter time of 2:20.33 placed at the MLK Collegiate Invitational. Both Hounds will only compete in the 800-meter this weekend as they prepare for the LSC Championship.

Sophomore duo Ryan Cox and Jessica Campbell are both on the books for both the high jump and 60-meter hurdles. Both Hounds impressed at the MLK Collegiate Invitational; Cox recorded a mark of 1.90m (6' 2.75"), while Campbell reached a personal best 1.60m (5'3").
 
LOOKING FORWARD
 
The Greyhounds will take qualifying athletes to the Lone Star Conference Championship held next weekend, Feb. 22-23, in Lubbock, TX. The Hounds indoor season will end with the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships scheduled for March 13-14 in Birmingham, Al.

Greyhound track & field's outdoor season will kick off with the Spring Break Classic hosted by West Texas A&M in Canyon, TX on Friday, March 20^th.
