LUBBOCK, TX – Eastern New Mexico track and field finished the two-day Lone Star Conference Championships with a women's team ranking of 5
th out of 12 teams and a men's team finish of 8
th out of 11 teams.
Greyhound senior
Mercy Rotich took gold for the second time during the meet finishing first in the 3000-m with a time of 10:21.25. Out of the 20 runners, all three Hounds placed in the top ten with
Aminata Kenyawani taking sixth and
Evaline Cheptoo placing eight.
Jessie Madrid ran the 3000-m on the men's side taking seventh out of 19 runners with a time of 8:52.59
Junior
Neri Getraide took gold in the women's 800m finishing with a time of 2:16.65 while Malethabo Seema took third crossing the line with a personal best, 2:17.20. On the men's side,
Ivar Moinat placed fourth with a time of 1:52.16.
Ryan Cox finished eighth overall in the men's heptathlon taking first in the high jump portion Friday morning recording a height of 1.90m.
Jon Fuentes took 8
th, out of 20 competitors, in the mile finishing with a time of 4:26.20.
Tamia Smith, freshman, took tenth out of 19 competitors in the shot put with a distance of 12.10 while senior
Bryanna Williams came in 12
th recording a distance of 11.88. Greyhound women's 4X400 team just missed a spot on the podium taking fourth place after finishing first in their heat.
The Greyhounds will rest up and hope to qualify for the NCAA Indoor National Championships set for March 13-14 in Birmingham, Alabama. Both
Ivar Moinat and
Mercy Rotich previously earned a provisional qualifying mark for the National Championships but will have to wait to see if they are invited to run.
The Greyhound outdoor season kicks off March 20
th, at West Texas A&M.
