ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico track and field head coach Jeff Kavalunas took two runners to the NM Collegiate Classic in hopes to strengthen their chances as an NCAA qualifier, and both Hounds did just that.

Mercy Rotich broke her personal best while taking fourth out of 33 runners in the 3000-meter with a time of 9:59.31. Rotich is currently ranked first in the Lone Star Conference from her previous time of 10:03.89 last weekend. Last year, Rotich ran a 10:25.14 at the Lone Star Conference Tournament taking first place. The senior has constantly improved her time this year and is vying for another victory run.

Junior, Aminate Kenyawani knocked a couple seconds off her previous 3000-meter time moving her up in the LSC standings. Kenyawani finished 16^th with a time of 10:44.15. Kenyawani is a transfer student in her first year as a Hound. The junior ran in the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships last year finishing with a 3000-meter time of 10:38.87, placing 11^th in the race. The new Hound is up against tougher competition but is proving herself to be a vital asset to the Greyhound team.

Both Greyhound runners are also ranked in the top ten in the LSC for their mile times.  

The Greyhound Track and Field team will compete in their final indoor meet of the season next weekend at the Texas Tech Shootout.
