PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Cross Country will take part in the NCAA Division II South Central Championships in Lubbock, Texas on Saturday. ENMU women's cross country starts the day with a 6K race beginning at 9:00 a.m. local time (8:00 a.m. MST), followed by men's program taking on a 10K course, with a start time of at 10:15 local time (9:15 a.m. MST).
LAST TIME OUT
The Hounds come into Saturday's meet following the Lone Star Conference Championships. The Women's team complied a fourth-place finish, while the Men's program finished in 13
th in team scoring. During the race,
Kelvin Kipkemboi finished in 10
th place to win all-conference honors, while also being named LSC Newcomer of the Year. Kipkemboi's time of 26.10.88 was the fastest for the Greyhounds on the 8K course.
Aminata Kenyawani and
Dorcas Kosgei also picked up all-conference awards, finishing ninth and 15
th, respectively. Kenyawani crossed the line with a time of 22:42.83, while Kosgei finished with a time of 23:21.25.
THE COURSE
The Greyhounds will be running at the Chaparral Ridge Cross Country Course on the campus of Lubbock Christian University. Chaparral Ridge is a fully dedicated course for the Chaparrals and Lady Chaps cross country programs. This will be the third thime this season ENMU will be running at the Chaparral Ridge Cross COuntry Course.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Eastern will face off against 30 other programs from around the South Central Region, including the Lone Star Conference (LSC) and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). A total of 216 entries are listed for the women's 6K race, while 236 runners will compete in the men's 10K run. On the men's side, six national ranked programs will be competing, while nine of the top-30 programs across the country will be taking part in the women's race.
