LSC Announces Women's Soccer Preseason Poll

RICHARDSON, Texas- The Lone Star Conference released its annual Women's Soccer Preseason Poll as voted upon by coaches and representatives across the league on Wednesday afternoon. The Greyhounds were picked to finish 12th, returning to the field after missing the 2020 season due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Dallas Baptist University was selected to finish atop the standings, just ahead of 2021 Spring Champions, Angelo State. The Lady Patriots amassed 433 total points and 18 first place votes, ahead of the Rambelles who received 428 total points and 14 first place votes. West Texas A&M followed in third with 372 total points, while St. Edward's and Texas A&M-Commerce rounded out the top five with 344 and 295 total points respectively.

In addition to the preseason poll, four women's soccer student-athletes received preseason awards. DBU's Ashley Merrill was named the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. ASU's Cassidy Hill and the Patriots' Blythe Obar shared Preseason Defensive Player of the Year honors, while the Rambelle's Kira Miller garnered Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year recognition.

The Greyhounds sported an 8-8-1 record in the 2019 season, with a 5-8 conference record. Returning in net is Whitney Dockweiler, who made 16 starts in 2019 and kept five clean sheets. Dockweiler made 87 saves while recording a 1.38 goals against average. The Greyhounds also welcome back Makenzie Mendez, Selena Casias, and Kinsie Mitchell; all three played significant minutes in 2019 with Mendez and Casias appearing in all 17 games and Mitchell making 15 appearances.

Head coach Abbey Barnum begins her first season on the sideline and second overall with the team as the 2020 season was canceled. Barnum welcomes a large group of new Greyhounds with 19 student-athletes earning their first minutes this season. ENMU will host nine home games this season and compete in 13 Lone Star Conference contests.

The Hounds begin their season at home against Colorado State University-Pueblo on Thursday, Sept. 2nd with kickoff set for 12 p.m.
