Pitch Preview: Lubbock Christian, UT Permian Basin

Men's soccer hosts Chaps Wednesday night

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico men's soccer earned its first conference win of the season last week and look to keep that momentum going into a pair of touch matches in the Lone Star Conference.

As always, admission to watch the only NCAA men's soccer team in New Mexico play is free to the public. The game will also be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network. Wednesday's home match is slated for 7:30 p.m. against Lubbock Christian University.

Before the Greyhounds take on the Chaps and Falcons, please take a look at the Pitch Preview:

No. 8 Goes Down – ENMU beat a top-ten program in its first home match of the season last week. The 1-0 result against No. 8 Midwestern State was just the third victory for the Hounds over the Mustangs in program history. The game winning goal was scored by Ben Sauerländer late in the first half off a pass from Jonathan De Motta.

Waschkau Wall – The freshman keeper went 1-1 over two starts last week and made ten saves over 180 minutes of action. He is second in the conference with 4.0 saves per game and sixth in save percentage with a .744 average.

Ranked Win History – In 2019, the Hounds defeated No. 3 Fort Hays State, No. 13 Midwestern State, and No. 17 Colorado Mesa. Wednesday's win over the Mustangs is the best victory for ENMU men's soccer since the early season game against FHSU.

Are you Series(ous)? – Eastern leads the overall series against Lubbock Christian, 7-4-4. The two programs last met in November 2019 with the Hounds taking a 2-0 result at home. ENMU is 5-2-1 in Portales against the Chaps and 3-1 when played at Greyhound Stadium. The Greyhounds are 9-6-1 against UT Permian Basin, including a four game winning streak. Eastern is 5-3 in games played in Odessa, Texas.

Who's Who – LCU held an early lead against Midwestern Saturday afternoon with an early second half goal from Pablo Diaz, but the MSU attack was too much for the Chaps to repeat what the Hounds did and take down the top-ten program. The Mustangs outshot Lubbock Christian, 16-7. UT Permian Basin also went 1-1 this week. They lost to St. Mary's 4-1 on Saturday and beat Texas A&M International 3-2 on the road Wednesday afternoon. The team has been held scoreless three times this season.
