PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico men's soccer season comes to a close this week, but before the final matches, please take a look at the Pitch Preview:
At Our House – ENMU hosts Texas A&M International Wednesday afternoon for the final home contest of the year. The Greyhounds are 1-2 in Portales this year and look to push their record to .500 in those matches with a victory over the Dustdevils.
Taking Chances – Freshman
Ben Sauerländer has attempted a shot on goal in each of the last three matches for the Hounds. In Saturday's loss to WT, he attempted three shots in 60 minutes of play. The Dortmund, Germany native is tied for a team lead with three goals and had an assist in ENMU's first contest against Oklahoma Christian.
Similar Results – Both TAMIU and Eastern have two similar results to the same opponents. Both programs hold their only conference win against Midwestern State on a 1-0 finish. The Dustdevils and Hounds also lost to UT Tyler 3-0 over the last week. Both teams are in the lower half of goals scored among conference foes, but they are also towards the top in a handful of goalkeeping statistics (saves, saves/game).
It's a Rematch – On Aug. 27, the Greyhounds met Oklahoma Christian. The game started with an early push from ENMU, but OCU did not let the Hounds take any more chances in the next thirty minutes of action as they scored four goals. In the second half it was a different story as Eastern held the to goals to none advantage to close the game 4-2. With two months behind the two programs, this match will be notable to see how they both respond after OCU and ENMU have had less success in conference action compared to nonconference play.
Two Different Foes – TAMIU scores .81 goals per game while OCU finds the back of the net 1.69 times per contest. The Dustdevils have recorded an impressive seven shutouts while the Eagles have kept four opponents without a score. Oklahoma Christian has 91 SOG's while Texas A&M International only has 63 on the year. The Greyhounds will need to be attack heavy against both teams as TAMIU doesn't allow a lot of scoring chances and OCU gets on the scoreboard at will.
